Payday 2 has made more than $10m in revenue on Steam

It seems that revenue from Starbreeze's Payday 2 hit $10m at the start of 2020.

, in which Starbreeze says that as of January 3rd, 2020, it will be receiving 75 per cent of revenue from sales of Payday 2, up from the 70 it was making before.

At the end of 2018, Valve changed the way that revenue sharing worked. Where before, Steam firm kept 30 per cent of cash from a sale, the company's slice now goes down to 25 per cent once a game has made more than $10m.

Payday 2 was originally released in August 2013. 

For the full 2019 calendar year, the Payday IP was behind kr109.4m ($11.2m) of Starbreeze's kr280m ($28.6m) net sales.

"We released new material for Payday 2 in October, which was enthusiastically received by our community, brought our concurrent players to the highest level in some time and generated high sales in the fourth quarter," CEO Mikael Nermark said.

"This is a good sign that confirms the interest in a future release of Payday 3 and lays a stable foundation for continued efforts. Starbreeze will release additional updates to Payday 2 in 2020. As of 3 January, sales will gain further momentum through the increase in Starbreeze’s share of sales via Steam from 70 to 75 per cent."
