INTRODUCTION

Escape a merciless mansion alongside a girl words cannot reach, in a tale that can only be experienced in VR.

An escape-the-room adventure game that can only be experienced in VR, Last Labyrinth was created specifically for the VR age. Players must work to escape a mansion full of hidden dangers with a mysterious girl that appears before them.

Development of Last Labyrinth is being spearheaded by Hiromichi Takahashi, director and producer of the acclaimed Doko Demo Issyo (PlayStation® 1999) series and co-creator of Toro (the Sony Cat). Working alongside Mr. Takahashi is a diverse team, many of whom are industry veterans with resumes featuring titles that are household names around the world.

Debuting at Tokyo Game Show 2016, the Last Labyrinth preview demo created a lot of buzz, with the line to play reaching up to 3 hours long. Media outlets from around Japan and abroad covered the announcement of the game, and 4Gamer.net nominated Last Labyrinth for the Tokyo Game Show 2016 Media Award in the Indie category.

The interest continued to grow at Laval Virtual 2017, where Last Labyrinth received the Best VR/AR Contents award.

Last Labyrinth was released worldwide across multiple platforms starting November 13, 2019.

And now, Last Labyrinth makes a comeback.
On March 22, 2023, we launched a PlayStation®5/PlayStation®VR2 compatible version that includes "Last Labyrinth -Lucidity Lost-", a monitor mode that can be played without a VR headset, and Monitor Mode was implemented on PlayStation®4/Steam version with the major update "Last Labyrinth -Lucidity Lost-".
Last Labyrinth -Lucidity Lost- launched on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on May 15, 2023, on Nintendo Switch? on May 24, 2023.
Then, on June 21, "Last Labyrinth" including "Last Labyrinth -Lucidity Lost-" launched on the Epic Games Store, and on the GOG Store on August 23.

STORY

What the...?!

Your eyes begin to adjust to the darkness, and you find yourself in a room you’ve never seen before. You go to stand, but are barely able to move. You look down to find that your arms and legs are strapped to a wheelchair.

As the panic begins to set in, you catch a glimpse of a figure out of the corner of your eye.

!?

A young girl, standing in the darkness, stares at you with cold eyes…

How to Escape

You find yourself strapped to a wheelchair, unable to move.

The only things you can move are your head and fingers. There is a laser pointer attached to your head, and a switch in your hand. When you press the switch, the laser pointer turns on, allowing you to point to things around you. Because you are unable to move, this is the key to your escape.

The other key to your escape is the mysterious girl you meet in the mansion.

Because you are unable to move, she will be a great help to you. When the girl is confused about what she should do, she will stare straight at you, wanting your input. Although she can’t understand your words, she can understand your head movements. You can nod your head to show approval, or shake your head to show disapproval of her action.

How to play the Monitor Mode

CHARACTER

The mysterious girl "Katia"?
A young girl the player works with to solve puzzles and escape from the mansion.
She does her best to help the wheelchair bound player by moving and utilizing objects on their behalf.

The enigmatic figure "Phantom"?
Appearing inside the mansion that the player and Katia are trapped in, little is known about the true identity behind the mask of this hooded figure.

STAFF

Hiromichi Takahashi - Director/Producer
Past Titles:
Doko Demo Issyo series, Co-creator of the Sony Cat - Director/Producer

“In the past, I made games that focused on verbal communication with virtual characters. This time, I want to use VR technology to try to focus on communicating with virtual characters nonverbally. I hope players will enjoy unraveling the mysteries surrounding Katia, and lying within the mansion itself. There is more than meets the eye.”

Tetsuya Watanabe - Director/Game Designer
Past Titles:
Puppeteer - Game Designer
The Last Guardian - Game Designer(Physics)

“In order to implement the core gameplay mechanic of nonverbal communication with Katia, we are challenging ourselves to make Katia behave as humanly as possible. We are giving it our all to make it so that players will be able to feel her presence, and feel like their fates are intertwined with hers.”

Atsuko Fukuyama - Lead Character Animator
Past Titles:
ICO - Character Animator
Shadow of the Colossus - Character Animator

“I hope that players will not only enjoy the puzzle solving aspect of the game, but will be able to feel a connection with Katia. Although there are a lot of challenges to working in VR, I think we will be able to make Katia a character that players will be able to fall in love with.”

Michiko Kusaba - Lead Environment Artist
Past Titles:
Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec - Landscape Designer
Gran Turismo 4 - Landscape Designer

“When making the environments of Last Labyrinth, I first focus on how I want the players to feel when they are sitting in each room of the strange mansion the game is set in. Then, I imagine how Katia would feel. Would she be puzzled? Scared? I always want to focus on the feeling that the environments envoke. I hope players will enjoy them.”

Takuya Hanaoka - Sound Designer
Past Titles:
Monster Rancher - Sound/SE
Super Robot Wars - Sound/SE

“Trying out new techniques and working in new development environments always excites me. When I learned about the strange VR world of Last Labyrinth, Katia was already a living, breathing character. She was very loveable, and the gimmicks in the game were very dark. I wanted to stir up the feelings of the player with the sounds in the game, to make the experience more intense.”
